It’s the 2nd annual Pancake Day for the Kiwanis.

Saturday, March 19, 2011. 8:00 a.m. – noon. Location is the “Old Middle School” next to Ruth’s Restaurant. They will be serving Pancakes, sausage, orange juice, milk & coffee. All for $5.00. Kids under 3 are FREE. They will also have “to go” containers. Proceeds will benefit the children of Pike County. When you’re done with breakfast you can watch the parade for Opening Day of Ball. The whole day will be a GRAND SLAM!!!!!! Enjoy.

“Movies in the Park”

I would like to remind everyone of the “Movies in the Park” playing this Friday night the 29th. Festivities begin at 6:30 and the movie will begin at dark, about 8:30. Please come and support Pike County. This is a FREE event. You can bring your blanket and cooler. Concession will be open but if you don’t want to spend any money you don’t have to.

The movie playing will be RIO. Check it out. It’s hilarious.

It’s Back to School Time

I know you’re thinking, “where has my summer gone”? I know right? It’s definitely been a HOT one for sure. I am putting down a few schedules that I have heard about, so here they are.

12th & 11th Grade schedule pick up was today. Sorry I missed posting it. It was from 12:00 – 6:00.

10th Grade schedule pick up is tomorrow, Wednesday, July 27th from 12:00 – 6:00. You can also pay for your locker ahead of time this year. $10.00 If you need a parking pass they are $30.00.

Open House this year will be August 1st from 3:00 – 6:00 for the High School and Middle School.

Open House for the Primary and Elementary School will be August 3rd from 3:00 – 6:00 also.

Thursday, July 28th is the Pre-Open House for Transition to High School. It will be in the High School Commons area and it will be from 5:15 – 7:45. This is for new students entering High School.

Also on Saturday the 30th, the Boys and Girls Club is sponsoring a School Bash from 8:00 – 12:00. They are looking for donations of any school supplies if you would like to donate. I know that the Chamber of Commerce is a drop off point. There is also a Prayer Walk scheduled. You can contact Ben Maxedon for more details about it.

Movies in the Park

Hi. Thanks for taking the time to stop by. Is it hot enough for you yet? Geesh, it is me. June has been a real scorcher here in the South. Seems like it’s either too hot, no rain, or we are having tornadoes. I just thank the good Lord I am blessed to be here for all of it. Amen!

This summer the Parks and Recreation Department of Pike County is trying it’s hand at movies. Since we don’t have the funds this year for the fireworks, they are opting to help you out with FREE “Movies in the Park”. That’s right, FREE!!! Bring your lawn chairs or your blanket and even a picnic if you want. It’s completely FREE but the concession stand will be open if you decide to do that. We already had a try at it but the rain has pushed it off another month. The next “Movie in the Park”, is July 29th with pre-show activities starting at 6:30. There will be face painting, inflateables and pre-show music before the movie begins. The movie will begin at dusk. So that’s at least 2 hours of fun before the movie even starts. Ok, I know you are so excited about your little one getting into the Pre-K program right? Well don’t you dare forget about it. It’s a lottery so you don’t have to go stand out in the cold of night to try to get your little one in.

Applications for the 2011-2012 pre-k school year will be available at the Board of Education Office located at 16 Jackson Street, Zebulon, Georgia beginning February 1st through February 28^th during office hours. The 3 page application along with instructions will also be available on our website. All applications must be returned along with required documents by Monday, February 28^th. To be eligible for the 2011-2012 pre-k school year, children must be age 4 by September 1, 2011. Please be aware that the number of pre-k spaces provided by the Bright from the Start grant have not been determined at this time. The pre-k drawing for order of enrollment will occur in March. The day, time and location of the lottery will be announced. If you have further questions call the Pre-K Office at 770 567-4769, or the Board of Education Office at 770 567-8489.

Facebooking while at school ?

Ok, I have just had an in dept conversation with my sister-in-law about Facebook. While I think this is sooo totally wrong, she on the other hand thinks it’s ok. I definitely need your imput.

I have my notifications set up to show me when there is a message showing up on someone’s Facebook that I have made a comment on. Well, today is my daughter’s birthday so it’s been showing me notifications all day. When I got on there, I can see that my 16-year-old niece had been posting comments. I asked her if she was out of school today and she said “no, they have laptops”. They let them get on. Well, I’m just so NOT OK with this, are you? She’s not in our school system but I’m sure her’s is not the only one that lets them do it. Please take a minute to take my survey. I would love to hear some feedback about it. Am I just too “old school”?

Pike County Restaurant

I would love to just give a shout out to a local restaurant here that I am sad to say I have only been to once. What a GREAT family place to go. We were greeted by Ms. Lou upon our arrival and ushered to our “Booth by the Window”. This was a huge booth too. It seated 6 and boy did we get a view. Right next to the runway. We only saw one plane but hey, it was a Wednesday night close to 7:00.

We had the sweetest waitress too. Ms. Jessica. The menu offers several varieties of food. From sandwiches to steaks, to seafood. If you can’t find something here you are just too picky. I had the Salmon. Yummy! They have a great soup and salad bar. My kids had the vegetable soup which they all said was great. Let me tell you this. I had the absolute most fabulous “Key Lime Cake”. It was to die for.

I almost forgot. Don’t forget to visit the aviation museum when you’re finished. It is very interesting and it’s FREE or they take donations! They will also give Biplane Rides for FREE but landings are $50! Hahahahaha.
